Why We Go Here
Limay River Lodge is located on the Middle Limay River in Northern Patagonia, the first lodge on this famed stretch of water in Neuquén Province, Argentina. Positioned in the Patagonian wilderness along the banks of this incredibly productive river, the lodge was designed as a full luxury operation with world-class lodging, cuisine, service, personnel, equipment, guides, and fly fishing. The Middle Limay River is widely considered one of the richest fishing resources in Northern Patagonia. It is a tail-water fishery flowing out of Pichi Picun Leufu Dam, which provides consistent flow, temperature, clarity, and cleanliness throughout the season. The river runs 80 km through the semi-arid Patagonian high steppe into the large fertile lake formed by El Chocon Dam, creating unique fishing conditions with profuse underwater life, daily hatches, and strong populations of resident brown and rainbow trout that will take dry flies on the surface.
This system also offers the opportunity to target large migratory brown trout that move up from the lake during the season, creating the possibility of trophy fish alongside steady action. Anglers can fish dries on the surface all day long or use sinking lines and weighted streamers when targeting larger fish. The river is a large system with numerous channels, offering challenging and rewarding fly-fishing experiences, with guided fishing conducted either from boats or by wading across different beats.
