Discover the Canarreos Archipelago

Welcome to the Canarreos Archipelago, one of Cuba’s most spectacular fly fishing destinations. With more than 350 islands scattered across turquoise waters, this remote chain is a paradise for saltwater anglers seeking adventure and solitude.

Caddis Fly Fishing guides lead trips to two of the Canarreos’ most celebrated areas: Isla de la Juventud and Cayo Largo. Both locations offer access to vast, shallow flats and an extraordinary variety of species, including bonefish, permit, tarpon, and snook—making it a prime location for pursuing the coveted Grand Slam.

Unlike traditional lodge-based destinations, fishing the Canarreos is a liveaboard adventure. Guests stay aboard modern yachts designed for comfort, moving with the tides and fish to maximize opportunities each day. With professional guides, comfortable accommodations, and chef-prepared meals, these floating lodges combine the best of Cuban hospitality with access to some of the most unpressured waters in the Caribbean.

Travel Details
Most travelers arrive in Havana, Cuba, before transferring to Isla de la Juventud or Cayo Largo via domestic charter. The Avalon team organizes these connections and ensures a seamless transition from city to yacht. Caddis Fly Fishing guides will accompany your group, providing support and expertise throughout the journey. Entry to Cuba requires a valid passport and tourist card (visa), which is arranged prior to travel. We recommend arriving in Havana a day before your departure to allow for smooth transfers.

FAQ
Do I need a visa to travel to Cuba?
Yes. A tourist card (visa) is required and typically arranged in advance with your flights or through travel services.
What fishing gear should I bring
We recommend 8–10 weight rods with floating lines for bonefish, permit, and tarpon. A detailed gear list will be provided prior to your trip.
Can non-anglers join the trip?
Yes. Non-anglers are welcome on the yachts, where they can relax, enjoy the scenery, and join excursions while anglers are fishing.

Bonefish and permit are abundant year-round. Tarpon fishing is best March–July, while snook are found in mangrove-lined channels. Many guests pursue Grand Slams during their stay.

Why We Go Here

The Canarreos Archipelago is one of the most unique saltwater fisheries in the world, and it remains largely untouched. Its sprawling flats and mangrove channels provide habitat for bonefish, permit, tarpon, and snook, creating one of the few places where anglers can realistically pursue a Grand Slam in a single day. With so little pressure on these waters, the fishing remains as wild and exciting as it was decades ago.

Caddis Fly Fishing loves guiding here because the experience combines exploration and comfort in equal measure. Each day brings new fishing grounds, thanks to Avalon’s liveaboard yachts that move with the tides and conditions. Add in Cuba’s rich culture, professional guides, and the camaraderie of a small group adventure, and you have a destination that offers both world-class angling and unforgettable memories.
