Monic Fly Lines

Monic Fly Line is new at The Caddis Fly Shop for 2023! This is a line company that we were reluctant to look at and cast…at first! Fast forward a couple of months and Monic went from casting lines in our parking lot to the McKenzie and even to South America and the Seychelles with terrific results. Monic Fly Lines are different and in a good way! Monic fly lines contain no volatile chemicals in the manufacturing process of their product. Meaning, no chemical leeching into the environment or quickly degrading fly line performance. This shift in technology of manufacturing fly line means there is no need for added topcoats, lubricants or floatants resulting in smooth casting, high floating, and long-lasting lines.

To top it all off Monic Fly Line offers Clear floating fly line/integrated Clear floating fly line tip sections which was an industry first in 1996! This is an obvious advantage for fly fishing and is probably the fly-fishing industry’s best kept secret for all fish species that can be chased using a floating fly line.

The Caddis Fly Shop carries a great selection of Monic Fly Lines featuring varied taper profiles, colors and situational specific lines for both fresh and saltwater fly fishing. Stop by or call about Monic lines and which one is right for you.

We fish the gear we sell has never been truer when it comes to Monic Fly Lines. We had a chance to put these excellent fly lines to work in the salt fall/winter of 2022. It’s easy to be a skeptic of Monic with the big three fly line manufacturers omnipresent in fly shops all over the world. But… Here is the story. Our first time to Playa Blanca Lodge in Espirito Santos Bay or ESB. 12 Anglers total, 8 veteran returners with over 50 combined weeks permit fishing, so no slouches present. Six days fishing 5 total permit caught, super slow week for Playa Blanca but all 5 were caught on Monic Saltwater Lines, specifically the Monic Phantom Tip lines. Could it have been a fluke, maybe but a few of the Permit were caught with casts less than 40 feet and I really believe that the clear stealth aspect of the Monic Fly Line made a difference. Three weeks later, Astove Atoll Seychelles. Same Monic Lines and two more Permit, this time Indo Pacific’s. In addition, we had some mid-sized GT’s pull on these lines with big tippet. No issues with line stretch, loops help perfectly, and lines performed wonderfully. In the past clear lines have had issues with memory, Monic seems to have solved this problem.
