Note: All Beulah Platinum Series Spey Rods are 4-pc rods.

The folks at Beulah added the Platinum Spey Fly Rod series to meet the design and performance requirements of Spey fishers who have been asking for a Beulah fly rod with deep loading what one might refer to as Traditional loading into the nether (butt) regions of the rods. And yes, that is Spey techno-speak terminology with a twist of our humor thrown in to do battle with the Deschutes afternoon headwind. Let's look at the Beulah Platinum Spey Fly Rods we offer our customers.

11'7" - Beulah Platinum Spey Fly Rod. This is 5 wt Beulah we consider a specialty trout Spey rod, although, sure, this rod could be used on the John Day, Grand Ronde, Siletz, or Rogue when you have either relatively small water, modest sized steelhead, and/or room to follow your fish. This Beulah Spey rod will also perform as a larger than usual Switch rod with indicators, swimming mice, and puling streamers.

More Info on the Beulah 11'7" 5wt Plantinum Spey:

Beulah 11'7" 5 weight: Like all Beulah Platinum Fly Rods this short, ultra light 5 weight is designed as a deep loading spey rod that compliments a relaxed casting style. This strikes us as a unique 5 weight because it is ACTUALLY a 5 weight spey rod! Every serious angler will easily find a home for this rod whether it is nymping, techy dry fly fishing over selective trout or swinging soft hackles. There is definite cross-over ability for swinging flies to summer Steelhead on rivers like the Rogue, Trinity and Klamath rivers where a lot of Half Pounders are present and adult Steelhead are in the 4-7 pound range. Lots-O-Fun all over the N.W. and beyond, come in and give it a wiggle. Details: 11'7" 5 weight 4-piece Spey $545.00, based on a carbon scrim the rod features multi-modulus construction, light wire snake guides, quality chrome over stainless stripping guides and comes complete with a partitioned sock, and Cordura protective tube. Grain Range: 300 – 430 grains. This is a spey recommendation. The lighter end of the range starts with a Scandinavian style line 275 grains and a 25 grain Poly Leader, the higher end of the range is based on a Skagit line 320 grains and a 110 grain (max) sink tip. Casting dry flies with an S.A. GPX 6 or Rio Grande 6 is excellent. Try bumping the grains to a traditional 8 weight line for nymphing or take a look at one of the newer Rio Indicator or Switch lines designed to already be up-lined with a taper designed specifically for nymphing these longer lighter weight fly rods.

The Beulah 11'7" Spey Rod will make dry and damp fly presentations with an Airflo Scandi Compact 300 or a Rio AFS 300 gr Spey fly line. Our pure Beulah customers suggest that dry/damp presentation calls for the Beulah Elixir 5/6 295 gr line; the sunken fly/tips presentation requires the Beulah Tonic 5/6 320 gr Spey line.

12'6" - Beulah Platinum Spey Fly Rod. This is a 6 wt Beulah that we recommend as an all-around summer steelhead Spey fly rod. The Beulah 126" Spey Rod will make dry and damp fly presentations with an Airflo Scandi Compact 390 or a Rio AFS 400 gr lines should be properly tuned. Sunken fly presentations with relatively light sink tips should be D-looped with A Rio Skagit Flight 425 or an Airflo Skagit Compact 420 gr head. For our loyal Beulah customers, the dry/damp presentation calls for the Beulah Elixir 6/7 380 gr line; the full-on wet fly/tips presentation requires the Tonic 6/7 425 gr Spey line.

Like all Beulah Platinum Fly Rods…this carbon scrimmed 12'6" 6 weight is designed as a deep loading spey rod that compliments a relaxed casting style. The 12'6" 6 weight class of rods are quickly becoming the benchmark for summer Steelhead and cross-over nicely into the winter Steelhead arena. Simply put, this is among the best spey rods on the market. It is extremely light in hand with a low swing weight making it easy to fish day in and day out. The rod quickly and easily loads deep into the butt section making it easy to get into the power band this rod has to offer. The rod tracks well through all phases of the casting stroke and the tip recovers crisply and quick. This rod will be good to have in the quiver from Northern California to B.C. chasing chrome from 4-15 pounds. Details: 12'6" 6 weight 4-piece Spey $560.00, based on a carbon scrim the rod features multi-modulus construction, light wire snake guides, quality chrome over stainless stripping guides and comes complete with a partitioned sock, and Cordura protective tube. Grain Range: 405 – 565 grains. This is a spey recommendation. The lighter end of the range starts with a Scandinavian style line 380 grains and a 25 grain Poly Leader, the higher end of the range is based on a Skagit line 425 grains and a 140 grain (max) sink tip. For a longer 55’ head try an Airflo Delta 6/7 if you like a more traditional casting stroke and feel. If you are looking for a true long line experience, the CND Vector 6/7 at 66’ and 440 grains is a nice match.

13'2" - Beulah Platinum Spey Fly Rod. This is a 7 wt Beulah that we recommend as versatile Spey rod suitable for both summer and winter steelhead with Scandinavian and Skagit Spey lines, floating and sink tips. Your spring, summer, and fall - dry and damp fly presentations on the Beulah 13'2" Spey Rod - should be properly tuned with an Airflo Scandi Compact 480 or a Rio AFS 460 gr line. Sunk fly presentations with moderate sink tips should be launched into fish bearing waters with a Rio Skagit Flight 450 or an Airflo Skagit Compact 510 gr head. For our steadfast Beulah team, the dry/damp presentation calls for the Beulah Elixir 7/8/9 470 gr line; the sunken fly/tips presentation is best accomplished with the Tonic 7/8 485 gr Spey line.
