These complete rooster saddle patches are a rare find these days. The full saddle patches were hand selected for the feather density, shape,and clarity. The saddles were then custom dyed in the most spectacular colors that are - guess what - perfect for both the fly tyer and the feather craft person. Now there is a nice surprise.

These saddle patches are harvested from genetically bred, domestic USA, roosters. The saddle patches are also unusual in the fact that they were trimmed more fully than is usually customary, so they contain the very wide webby rounded "Schlappen" feathers at the base of the saddle patch - and these are a nice addition to an already great value.

Please note the inset photo - it nicely shows representative saddle feathers taken from the lower 1/3 of the saddle patch. These are usually i the 6-7" length range and have nice taper from the base to the tip. These are not the super skinny feathers one would find in a Whiting 100 Pack, and as such, they serve different fly tying and decorative purposes. For fly tyers, these saddles are a great find to anyone tying salmon and steelhead flies in the #2 - #8 size range. These make absolutely waste-free saddles for hackle wings and collars. For the feather crafter, they are fantastic if you have been using strung saddles, because these have feathers that are more vivid, tapered shapes that are perfect, and each and every feather is rock solid - no waste like you get with the strung product.
