The Deschutes River is internationally recognized as a beautiful and amazingly productive setting to fly fish for abundant wild rainbow trout. Deschutes rainbow are a premier quarry for the fly angler. On any given day throughout the year, these fish might respond to nymphs, soft hackles, cripples, or high-floating dry flies. On many days, all of these approaches will be productive at different times during the day, corresponding to insect activity. Mention of the Deschutes is synonymous with the June Salmon Fly hatch, but in fact, unless the river is running too high, trout can be caught when the weather is nasty cold to blistering hot.
